The Mind and Growth

Our sermon today will focus on the concept of renewing the mind and the important role it plays in our growth and development. The mind is a fascinating thing, capable of change and transformation. Just think about the journey from childhood to adulthood, and how much our minds change during that time. In fact, change and growth are natural and necessary for a healthy mindset.

It’s important to recognize that not all change is beneficial. Sometimes, we can find ourselves dissatisfied or disappointed with the results of our personal growth because we haven’t been using God’s processes. Our minds are always changing, but it’s crucial that we align our growth with God’s plans for our lives.

Personal Experiences of Change

As we reflect on the changing nature of our minds, I want to share some personal experiences of change and growth in my own life. Over the years, I’ve learned valuable lessons through these experiences that have shaped my mindset and brought me closer to God.

Life is full of ups and downs, and it’s often in the challenging moments that we experience the most growth. I’ve learned to embrace those difficult times as opportunities for personal development and rely on God’s strength and guidance to carry me through.

Humorous Examples of Change

Change isn’t always serious. In fact, sometimes it can be quite humorous to look back on the trends and items that have changed over time. Take, for example, the Walkman. It was once considered cutting-edge technology, but now it seems ancient compared to the iPods and iPhones we use today.

We’ve come a long way from waterbeds and seat belts that weren’t required. Remember Jazzercise? These examples serve as a reminder that change is not only inevitable but also can be quite entertaining to witness. As we chuckle at these outdated trends, let’s also reflect on the more significant changes we need to make in our lives for personal growth.

Leaving Things Behind for Growth

In our pursuit of personal growth and maturity, it’s essential to recognize the importance of letting go. Just as we leave behind outdated trends and items, we must also be willing to shed unhealthy mindsets or habits. Holding onto these things can hinder our progress and limit our potential.

Leaving behind what no longer serves us allows space for new and healthier mindsets to take root. It opens doors for personal transformation and enables us to embrace God’s plans for our lives fully.

Relating to the Spiritual Life

While growth and change are relevant to all aspects of life, it’s especially crucial to apply these principles to our spiritual journey. Just as we give up old trends or habits for personal growth, we must give God more control and surrender in our spiritual lives.

Inviting God into our journey allows for spiritual growth and maturity. As we rely on Him, we become more attuned to His plans and purposes for our lives. Trusting God through the ups and downs, just as we trust in our personal growth process, fosters a deepening relationship with Him.

Scripture Reference – Exodus 15

To illustrate the mindset of God’s people in the face of change and growth, let’s take a closer look at a scripture passage from Exodus 15. In this passage, Moses leads the Israelites out of captivity in Egypt and into the Wilderness of Sure.

The journey is not without challenges. The Israelites become thirsty and find water at Mara, but it turns out to be bitter. However, God shows Moses a log to throw into the water, making it sweet. This story highlights the lesson that disappointment can ultimately turn into sweetness when we trust God.

God makes a covenant with the Israelites, promising to provide for them and protect them from diseases. They continue their journey and reach Elim, where they find twelve springs of water and shade. This serves as a reminder that God is faithful to His promises, and He will provide for His people.

As they make their way to the Wilderness of Sin, the Israelites grumble against Moses and Aaron. God promises to send bread from heaven, but He also tests their obedience to His commandments. The story showcases the struggle to trust God during a wilderness journey, an experience many of us can relate to in our spiritual lives.

Ultimately, the lesson from this scripture passage is that God will free, rescue, provide, and care for His people. His faithfulness and provision are unwavering, even in the midst of change and growth.

Conclusion

Before we wrap up, I want to take a moment to pray over each one of you. Please join me in prayer.
